Confetti wedding photo

What’s it like having you photograph our wedding?

It’s like having a super organised, list-loving, friendly face and helping hand, calming nerves and photographing your preparations, discreetly capturing your ceremony, gently guiding you to create beautiful wedding portraits, organising groups to leave you time to chat to your guests and mingling to get candid shots of them having fun, enjoying the speeches and dancing. But don’t take my word for it – see how my couples describe me.

Which areas do you cover – will you travel?

I live in London, have a base in Northumberland and love travelling across the UK and overseas to photograph beautiful weddings and elopements. I travel a lot and Iceland, Santorini and Croatia are three of my favourite places to photograph but I’m always up for an adventure. So wherever you’re planning your wedding please send me a message so we can talk travel tips & wedding plans.

Relaxed wedding group photos

How many group shots should I have & how long will they take?

It’s up to you, but as a guide I recommend that you keep this to a minimum to allow you plenty of time to talk to your guests – if you’re planning between 6 and 8 groups shots you’ll need to allow approximately 25 minutes for this depending on the size of the groups.

Do you provide a second shooter / Do I need a second photographer?

If you’d like a second photographer to capture things from a different angle, cover both sets of morning preparations or take extra candid photos of your guests I can arrange this. There is an additional cost to cover the second photographer – please send me a message for more information. I edit their images so the style is consistent and all images are included in your online gallery.

What if it rains?

It might rain. I’ll always talk to you about a rainy day back up plan. This might be wellies and an umbrella, a covered doorway, being flexible with timings so we can dash out to make the most of any breaks in the rain or an indoor alternative for photographs. Wherever possible I’ll encourage you to head outside even just for 5 minutes under an umbrella – and don’t worry, rainy day weddings can still be beautiful.

What if you’re ill?

It’s every photographer’s worst nightmare to be really unwell and unable to make it to a wedding – it’s never happened to me so far (touch wood). I have several photographers who I’ve worked with before who I’d call as a first option if I was unable to make it, and I’m a member of photography groups where I can post if I need emergency cover. I’d always do my best to find you a replacement photographer with a similar style – and I’d edit the images so they would be as close as possible to what I would have delivered if I’d been there.

Engagement Photography FAQ

Relaxed engagement photo outdoors

What is an engagement shoot or prewed shoot?

An engagement or pre-wed shoot is a chance to create natural romantic portraits of you and your partner relaxing and happy together in places that mean something special to you. It’s a lovely way to celebrate your engagement and gives you gorgeous photos to use when you share the news with family and friends or to include in your wedding. I’ve shared 5 reasons to have an engagement shoot – and you can see what my couples say here.

We hate having our photo taken – should we still have an engagement shoot?

Yes! An engagement shoot is the perfect way for us to get to know each other and a chance for you to relax in front of my camera so you feel comfy and look gorgeously natural in your wedding photos. I’ve photographed many camera shy couples who say they don’t think they are photogenic and an engagement shoot is always my top tip. Read more about how my couples talk about their engagement shoots here.

Where should we have our engagement shoot?

Engagement photo shoots can be as unique are you – from intimate at home sessions to photos by your favourite London landmarks, picnics in the park or a stroll along the river, a visit to a market or brunch in your local coffee shop. I’ve shared 6 engagement shoot locations to consider – and I’m always happy to make suggestions so please send me a message.

What should I wear for my engagement shoot?

An engagement shoot can be as relaxed or formal as you like. From an at home pjs session to jeans and t-shirts, suits and ties or even your wedding wear! It’s generally best to choose complementary colours (rather than clashing or exactly matching outfits) and I’m always happy to talk through options with you.

Golden hour woodland engagement shoot

What time of day is best for an engagement shoot?

An engagement shoot can take place at any time, but generally outdoor photos are best when the sun is not directly overhead so depending on the weather and time of year you may want to avoid the middle of the day. If you want beautiful golden light, then the hour before sunset (or after sunrise if you’re an early bird) is a good time to try. If you want photographs by popular London landmarks you may want to consider how busy it will be – early mornings and weekdays tend to be quieter.

What if it rains?

It might rain. I tend to confirm the exact timing with you the day before when we can see the forecast – if it’s torrential rain and we can both reschedule to another date that might be the best option. Otherwise, we can embrace the rain with wellies and an umbrella, find covered doorways or indoor options for photographs.

I’d love to. I can either be discreetly undercover at an agreed location ready to capture the moment you pop the question without your partner realising, capture all the emotions of a proposal and then create some beautiful engagement portraits of you together brimming with happiness! Or if you prefer you can choose to propose during a couple shoot – I will work with you to find the perfect setting for you to surprise your partner during the session. Family Photography FAQ

Pregnancy photography London

What stage of pregnancy is best for a maternity shoot?

I love to photograph glowing beautiful mums-to-be and the mix of excitement and nerves, hopes and dreams that are part of pregnancy. If you’re considering a maternity shoot then around 7 months is a lovely time to do one, but it’s possible to do them earlier or later if that suits you better.

What should I wear for my maternity photo session?

For maternity sessions I recommend wearing something close fitting that shows off your bump – you may also opt for some more intimate bare bump photos at home where either jeans and a crop top, or underwear with a shirt or kimono-style dressing gown look great. I’m happy to talk through options and you may want to have several different outfits.

What age is best for a newborn photo shoot?

Those first few weeks are full of moments to treasure. I come to your home to allow everyone to be relaxed and take lifestyle portraits, all those little details (tiny toes and little fingers) and those special everyday moments to look back on for years to come. If you’d like a newborn session then between 4 and 17 days is ideal as babies can be more easily posed at this age, however I will happily photograph older babies or capture them brand new within the first 48 hours.

What do I need to do to prepare for a newborn shoot?

I come to your home for newborn shoots to allow everyone to be relaxed and take lifestyle portraits, all those little details (tiny toes and little fingers) and those special everyday moments to look back on for years to come. I’ll ask you to have some towels and small blankets on hand, to turn up your heating and choose any little items you’d like to be included (a small toy, hat or Babygro). To maximise the chances of sleepy baby photographs I recommend trying to keep baby awake for an hour before I arrive and then feed them when I get there so they are ready to settle. I allow plenty of time for settling and feeding so there is no stress or pressure.

What age is best for a baby photo shoot?

The first year is full of milestones you won’t want to forget: I think stages rather than ages are the best way to think about baby photo shoots. when baby can lift their head during tummy time this can make for some beautiful photos, similarly when they learn to sit up unaided and then when they are pulling themselves upright and learning to walk. Capturing these stages of development in relaxed at home sessions lets you save these precious memories.

What activities can we do on a family shoot?

It’s up to you! I’m happy to take family portraits for you at home or out on a family adventure. You might like an at home family shoot where I can capture favourite games and books, furry friends, baking, artwork and garden play. If you prefer a family adventure I can join you on a walk, a picnic or on a great expedition – even a trip to see Santa! I’d love to hear your ideas so please send me a message.

What should I wear for my newborn / baby / family photo session?

For newborn or baby sessions – wear what’s comfortable. White, black or pale coloured tops work really well for parents – try to avoid very bright colours, patterns or text. A simple babygro without legs can be nice for newborns and also works well for babies or you might choose a favourite outfit that still shows off their toes.

For family sessions it’s generally best to choose complementary colours (rather than clashing or exactly matching outfits) – I’m always happy to talk through options with you.
