Hannah & Allan planned an intimate outdoor wedding by a Loch in Scotland, in Acharacle on the Ardnamurchan Peninsula. Their tiny May wedding had dry weather (although quite windy!) and plenty of personal touches – from Hannah’s special wedding spectacles to Allan’s kilt in his family tartan. They chose a first look among the flowers, and a friend played acoustic guitar as they walked together down the steps into a circle formed by their 23 guests. In the ceremony, they said their vows, exchanged handmade wooden wedding rings and used a tartan ribbon for their handfasting ceremony. They walked down to the water’s edge for some portraits by Loch Shiel – an amazing backdrop with views out to Ben Resipole.
For the reception at Ardshealach Lodge the trestle table was covered with jam jars of flowers and creative favours – Hannah & Allan made recipe photo books of their favourite things to cook for all their guests: “Eat Like We Eat!”. Speeches were toasted with whisky and there was a tower of cheeses instead of a wedding cake – introduced by the bride’s brother with a speech filled with cheesy jokes! It stays light until late this far north and the celebrations continued with drinks and dusk portraits in the gardens.
I loved how relaxed this outdoor wedding felt: Hannah & Allan chose which elements of the day were important to them and didn’t include any that didn’t fit. They went on a long hike and swam in the sea in the morning before the ceremony. They chose a small exclusive-use venue where everyone could feel at home and, by having an intimate wedding, they were able to spend lots of time with their guests.
