I grew up in Northumberland, got married there and still spend as much time there as I can, so I was thrilled to join the lovely Rachel Rose to photograph Emily & David’s beautiful Doxford Barns wedding near Alnwick. It was an emotional wedding with some tears as well as laughter. It’s not just dads who get tearful as they prepare to walk their daughters down the aisle – I always feel so honoured to capture these moments and sometimes hide a tear of my own behind my camera.
Emily & David chose a Doxford Barns wedding as it’s an exclusive use wedding venue set in 550 acres of farm complete with accommodation for the wedding party on site making it perfect for a relaxed rustic wedding. They had a moving ceremony in the Threshing Hall, a beautiful 18th century stone barn with exposed wooden beams and a candle filled fireplace, and guests celebrated by throwing confetti as they walked out. They moved to the main barn with a wall of windows for their reception, complete with a beautiful semi naked wedding cake topped by just married bunting.
Emily had tried on lots of dresses and finally found ‘the one’ at a special meet the designer weekend at Mia Sposa. There Justin Alexander designer Tony Mentel talked with her and suggested dresses to try including this off the shoulder gown with illusion lace sleeves. Emily fell in love with the dress’s lace back and flared skirt, and Tony must have approved as he sketched her in the dress as a special wedding gift.
