Claire & Joe met me on a hot summer day for their Epping Forest engagement photos. This beautiful open space in East London was just gorgeous in the sunshine. We took a leisurely walk and found pockets of shade under the trees, climbed the hill for views across the valley and enjoyed the sun in the long grass. It’s always special when a couple are able to show me round a place they love and know well – Claire goes running in the forest and they often walk her dogs here together. While I’ve visited parts of Epping Forest before (I took family photos with my nephew here when he was tiny!), it has over 5000 acres of ancient woodland right across the border between London and Essex and so it’s lovely to explore new parts.

I think that walks are great for engagement shoots. They help you relax, let us chat as we go – stopping for photos and then moving on again – and let you get photos in a range of different places without spending too long in any one spot. And woodland walks, like this Epping forest engagement shoot, mean that I’m always on the look out for pretty clearings, fallen logs to sit on, grassy patches, spots where the trees arch to create a gorgeous natural frame, and places where the sun flares through the branches.

Claire & Joe got married at the nearby St John’s Church in Buckhurst Hill (on a much wetter winter day!) – you can see their London church wedding photos here.
